At the risk of being flamed myself, I fail to see why Gene Pantano did not e
mail his queries and concerns direct to David Wright at GL without flaming
off on this list. I personally do not wish to be led through the detail of
Gene's education in computer matters. Maybe there others who feel the same?
The time to go public on the list is when you are *quite sure* the system
has broken down and needs public pressure to bring it into line.
Just my Euro's worth. Time to get the Napalm out Gene.

Gene, as someone who has worked on large and difficult to see entire
picture systems, it is easier if rather than just bitching someone
gives clear reasoning what isn't working, where its at and how its
not working. Imagine working on a car and someone telling you it just
makes a noise, but can't or won't tell you more details.
David W. is trying real hard. This is evidenced by his response to
you on the list within an hour of your post to the list. Few
companies that do anything on the web have anywhere close to that
response time to an issue with their site. When you find a problem
with an auction, send a message to the list, be polite and cc David
so he gets it faster. Explain the trouble, and I'll bet it gets fixed.
Web sites and commerce systems are not built in a day nor are the
changed in a few hours (generally). Sometimes they can be, but if its
a systemic problem that requires a revision to code or .conf files or
something else, then you tread lightly. Especially if its an
operational system. Imagine working on a M35A2 while someone else is
driving it. You can only stop to shut the engine down at certain
predetermined intervals (ie over-night)...Get the idea yet?
