That is the norm...and what the dash shut-off handle does....
IF you are prepared for it, you can shut off airflow at intake and suffocate
the engine...(remove mushroom and slap steel plate or board across it to
completely close off air flow.)
OR, IF you have nerves of steel and paid up insurance, you can try putting in
high gear, holding the brakes and dumping the clutch.
