Sv: [MV] Leased versus unleaded fuel.

Hi Cor

Yes, the lead definitely has a purpose, it allows the octane number to be
increased without "knocking". But most military vehicles of the early 40's
were designed for 70 Octane, which was the best you could find in general
use in 1940. The use of lead was a German invention to allow them to
increase the octane rating of fuel for their fighters, and it indeed
worked - for a while until the secret was discovered by the allies. So for
higher octane engines like those in modern cars, there is a definite
advantage to performance in using leaded contra unleaded petrol. In engines
from the early 40's though, it really doesn't matter at all.

Regards
Gerry
