Greetings,
My CCKW is now back from the sandblaster, and nearing completion.
The tray came off and was blasted and coated.very excellent
Tyres: I have not forgot my desire to enable my CCKW to traverse the
excellent sand dunes near to me. To do this, I need to modify the tyres.
I have a good set of original type wheels&tyres on it which will be
used most of the time.
My latest plan, for xtra set, is to run BEADLOCKS on modified rims
using 10.00 # 20 tyres.
This should enable me to run 10-15 PSI.
Single wheels...10.00 # 20 is a common size,will fit the rear bogies,
for sand, wide tyres are not a big bonus, or nobbly tread..
in fact tall skinny baldies are apparently the best..low PSI is essential.
I am told i will need to run tubes if i use GMC wheels,
or extra complications will occur.
I have spare GMC wheels to use, they will need machining for width,
and too take the beadlocks.
The reason i post this is if anyone is a truck tyre expert, i would
certainly appreciate any input, especially if they think it wont/will
work...these vehicles were fitted with various sand tyres, single wheels,
as evidenced by numerous pictures & captions in the "GMC book.
DUKW wheels and tyres are scarce, or i would use them, any ideas would be
useful..maybe i should give up even?
regards tony
