I have owned 4 M720's and maintained about 40 of them. They unbolt in the
center and bolt up to several different types of maintenance/operations
shelters. If the shelter has 4 'feet', one on each corner, front and rear,
and also has 4 large screw holes about 3 feet above the 'feet', you can
transport the shelter with an M-720. I think that the maximum off road load
weight is about 2 1/2 tons. You must tow with at least a deuce because of
the air over hydraulic brake system. Be VERY careful towing it unloaded. It
must be fully raised and even then, at high speed, they sometimes get a
pronounced side to side swerve. Never tow two or more in tandem, unless you
drive at less than 10mph on private land. They will become uncontrollable.
The 4 raising rams are hand pumped hydraulics. The easiest way to pick up a
shelter is with the shelter on the ground, or raised not more than 6 inches.
You will require a 8 foot long 'cheater bar' that slots into the rear pintle
hook in order to attach the rear half to a shelter. It really is a 4 man
job, but can be done with 2 hefty troops or one monster.Your serial number
is a USAF registration for the 1978 model year (not 1979) the 'L' means
tactical trailer and the 2?6 is the chassis number. The next size up is the
M832 and the monster size is the M1022.
Any more questions?
