Hi Steve and list
An interesting subject Steve, and not one which we in the MV community face
alone. It is the same with Radio Hams, Stamp Collectors, Genealogists and a
bunch of guys I know who collect flint axes from stone age encampments
around Scandinavia.
I remember my past. I first began to collect military vehicles long after I
stopped using them professionally. I guess to be interested in history you
have to have one yourself, and there are not that many people under the age
of 40 (sorry to those who are....) who have one. Before that time we are ALL
engaged in making a family, getting careers, homes etc. It is a dog-fight
out there and has always been one, and when you're in a dog-fight you don't
have time for history, or philosophy etc.
My guess is that the future for all kinds of non-sports clubs will be a
steady sieving of people around the age of 40 into these clubs and a steady
dying off of the old guard. It would surprise me very mucg if the average
age of MV collectors isn't around the 45-50 area, and will stay that way for
years to come.

Emne: Re: [MV] Kids and MVs WIll we die with them?
One thing that came to mind when reading Ross's reply is that there are
extremely few of our children
that have an active interest in the hobby. Sure my boys love my M151 but
that is for 4-wheeling! I tell
them to help me get the 'fleet' to Weare (and hopefully back) each year, but
that is their sole involvement.
In my club (MVMVC) we have very few young people. It is the same way in
other antique hobbies as well.
So the question arises: What happens to our treasures in 20-30 years when we
are: dead, can't remember
what an HMV is, can't drive them, etc?
I have been thinking about this some lately. Do I want these treasures that
I have spent vast amount of money and time on to go to the scrap metal yard,
or be purchased by someone wanting to go logging with them?
Now is the time to start thinking about this.....
