Sand Blasting Alternative used at Ordnance Museum.

The Ordnance Museum Restoration facility did not select sand blasting for the
major reason that it generated large amounts of contaminated media that had
to be disposed of as hazardous waste. They use high pressure water, that is
recycled, the material that is removed is much smaller in volume. They use a
"wash primer" when they are giving the vehicle its last going over to prevent
any corrosion prior to painting. The 29th Annual East Coast Rally, MD web
site

has an article on what they are doing, plus tours during the Rally 9-11 May
to the Museum Restoration Facility tour each day. Unfortunately the amount
of money they have for each vehicle is pitifully small, just enough to arrest
the current corrosion, some limited body /hull work and then repaint.
Proceeds raised at the Rally go to raise awarness of the support for
restoration work and for the Museum expansion project.
