When removing tie-rod ends...here is the way I learned.. The main problem
here is that it requires either 2 people...or the use of a hydraulic jack
set up to push the "top" rod away from the bottom rod when the "tools" are
used. First -- the nut is loosened on the tie-rod end...leave the nut on
the end...threaded all the way down to where it is flush with the threaded
part.. then , the second person uses a stout bar...lilke a good carpenters
crow bar..or a good 2X4...your choice.. place the bar between the 2 rods on
the vehicle and exert a small amount of pressure to separate the 2
rods...not a whole lot of pressure is needed.....Then-- with 2 good hammers,
like 4 pound Craftsman sledges....in one good smack...hit the female rod
where the tie-rod stem goes in and through.. Usually one smack will separate
the rods...sometimes 2... This is the most efficient way to separate the
rods. It does not deform any parts and will not damage the rubber seals on
the tie rods.. It never fails..and saves all parts.. Those forks can be
dangerous..they ruin most ends.. Try this..you'll like it.. Gene..
