There are a number of photos out there.
As far as history goes, they were used in North Africa by the British
who tended to hate them due to their flimsy construction. They tended
to leak (about 60-80% of them did) which didn't help things much in
the campaign. When ever the british could, they used captured German
fuel/water cans. Eventually making them domestically. The design is
even made today.
Apparently, the original german maker of the german (jerry) pattern
can, has a lawsuit pending for a copyright. This may or may not be
apocryphal.
