I am not famaliar with the M-series axles, but if it is like the WW2 GM
axles and has the outer
axle seal in the end of the housing by the knuckle, I use a wood chisel and
cut the metal housing
on the seal and then folf it in on itself until it is loose and can be
pulled out with your fingers.

Long term: Either get a set of locking hubs (assuming that you have an air
shift xfer) or make dummy
non-driving flanges for the hubs. You will than me in the morning and will
be doing this a lot less frequently!

Also check the vent system for the front axle to make sure it is venting the
axlehousing properly and not
allowing pressure to build up in there.
