I was describing the neat job that my friend Art did on our deuce.
He cut the vertical pipe or just removed the upper piece. Not sure. He
then installed a stock NAPA muffler and a 45 degree top piece. He
fashioned a brace for it, too. It is very secure, and I think the
military would have done it exactly this way, if they had chosen to. I
can look up the NAPA numbers and take some photos to post somewhere, if
someone will provide a place to post the info. If there is interest in
this as a package deal you can buy from Art, that could be done.
While this really knocked down the exhaust noise, it still left us
with lots of cab noise coming from the floor. We have a hardtop on this
deuce. We will install acoustic damping material on the floorboards and
other spots as needed. We still prefer to use headcans to drive it very
far.
