Tim,

The Federal Model 606 (C-2) 7.5-ton 6x6 Wrecker is definitely a rare
vehicle. The straight boom denotes a later C or D model with GarWood crane
of only 5 tons capacity at the 8 foot radius (as opposed to the 10 ton
capacity of the curved boom), but the boom can telescope to length of 18, 22
and 26 feet. It has a 180 hp. 855 cu.in. Hercules HXD engine, five speed
Spicer model 7851 transmission and two-speed Wisconsin model T-77-3 transfer
case. It has air-powered steering and its cruising speed is a whopping 35 mph!
The C-2 Wreckers were very large and powerful trucks for their day, and were
the most numerous heavy wrecker in service at the time. See
http://home.zonnet.nl/pyle01/duxford2001.htm for a picture of the "Federal
wrecker as used by the USAAF on airfields in Britain during WW2" at the
Duxford museum.

If you have room for this very big truck which is practically complete, go
for it!

Hanno
