There is an auction this Saturday they advertised a 1948 CJ2a project
jeep (in pieces). Ad from auctioneer had picture. I could clearly see a
ww2 tub, ww2 windshield frame (laying in seat area). I decided to look
at it tonight. This was a 48 CJ2a frame and running gear, but had ww2
tub, fenders, hood, windshield (minus glass, but has glass frame), and
grill.
Guy bought it from JC Whitney a long time ago and never put it together. He
said it came from California. The tub has holes for gauges, brake lever
hole, shovel
holder, and top axe holder. no holes in body for grab handles. Has added
plate where
spare carrier mounts (no holes). Solid back wall, tool boxes without locks,
rear seat
brackets. All body parts painted Olive Drab and look to be in 98% shape
(real minor
surface rust on one corner). I guess my question is this the real thing or a
reproduction?
Sad to say guy air chiseled out gas tank well, but it is setting in back
loose. When I asked
how long ago he bought it he just said a long time ago.
Thanks for advice on M38a1 auction bid. I tell you how it goes. Sealed bids
are due Friday
and they have 9 bids counting mine today.
