Shimming it to fit might work, but you might weaken the socket if you
heat it enough to weld to it. Why not just experiment with how many
shims you need on each side, and then superglue them to the nut/bolt
itself? All they have to do is stay in place till the socket gets on,
and then torque should hold them in place...
