Take a short piece of 2" square box tube (thick wall) and cut a 3 1/4" wide
notch out of one side and them weld a socket to the other side. Trim the
excess off of the ends (leave enough to make it strong). I hope this helps,
I made one of these for a large hub nut once.

If all else fails, get the 3 1/2" socket and tack weld some shims inside the
socket.
Drill a hole in the middle of each shim and then weld thru the hole. should
be
easier to debur etc. This is just an idea, I've never actually done this.
