hi.
My deuce failed to start for the first time in almost two years.
After a load test today, one battery was found bad. So, now
it got me wondering...
1) What makes a battery go bad? Is it corrosion on the plates?
Or do the plates "wear out" in time?
2) What purpose does the sulfuric acid have? I know you
need some medium for the transfer of electrons from one
plate to another, but why an acid? Why not plain water?
3) Does a deuce really need the large batteries that come
with it? Is the extra reserve needed from the 6TL's that
an automotive battery can't supply?
4) Lastly, I called around and found a place that has Deka
batteries for my deuce (same size as the Interstates). Is this
a good battery? I remember seeing on this list that somebody
bought a 6TL for $79. The Deka that was ordered for
me is $125. Am I being ripped off?
Thanks in advance for the list's help once more...
