If you can bear to lose the nut, pick up a tool called a nut splitter. It's
basically a hardened chisel that splits the nut allowing it to loosen. This
along with some good penetrating oil (i.e. JB80) should do the trick.
Although not completely non-destructive a nut is usually easy to replace and
will probably be ruined no matter what you do.

Subject: [MV] How do you separate...

Any ideas on how to non-destructively separate something that has been
bolted
together for 60 years? The assembly is a WW II aerial base made up of a
cast
iron plate, rubber gasket (which seems still pliable at the edges), and a
phenolic insulator. All parts are made of unobtanium. The cast iron plate
needs
to have some big chips welded, thanks to UPS miss-treatment.

Any ideas would be appreciated. It is not easy to apply axial force to the
thing.

TIA,
John
