CUCV Parking Brake Help

I am replacing the parking brake pedal. How do you get the cable to reach
the clip when hooking back up? I depressed the parking brake and held the
cable with lock pliers, then released it to get it out. I have been pulling
and pulling, but can't get enough cable out to slip it into slot. Can
anyone help?
