Cleaning canvas...and old paper

Hi Gang

I recently recovered some muzzle covers and a breach cover along with
several logbooks. They are VERY dirty and 1 book and 2 covers have been
soaked in oil. How would I go about cleaning them up without destroying the
canvas/paper or ruining the stenciles or writing on the pages.
