This is the link for the M715 disc brake kit from Helicoil. Looks like it
will run you close to a grand ( by the time you get done) with shipping your
hubs to them and then paying the shipping back to you and buying the not
included calipers, but they do the assembly and pressing of the rotors on
your hubs. You have to find in a junkyard or buy at a parts store the
required calipers. As someone pointed out to me there is a possible
clearance problem between the caliper and the knuckle of the axle which
requires basic meat ball mechanic solutions. This is pointed out on the
above link, but seems a little bit buried 3/4 of the way down the page.
Also, the kit is just for the fronts. But it's GOTTA improve the
breaking. I have a 715 sitting in the garage that will someday be worked on
and I think is a serious candidate for this kit. I used to drive an M725 for
CAP ( 20 years ago) and we would load 8-10 cadets plus their gear and then
fill all the under seat compartments with gear and a small generator. It
didn't accelerate worth a damn nor was there anything BUT panic stops when
you stepped on the ineffective brakes, especially when in convoy with 10 or
12 other M725s in hilly New England. Can't imagine how much fun it must have
been to drive the contact maint. version or a 715 with a fully loaded 101
trailer in tow.
