Get in touch with the local Red Cross chapter, local Disaster Preparedness,
volunteer fire departments, or just start your own non-profit emergency
logistics group. It probably wouldn't hurt to check in with your local fire
department either. I've had some success in dealing with missing children
searches and coordinating with the local police department - if you haven't
worked with them before it'll take some time to earn their trust - they deal
with plenty of goofballs all the time, which wind up being wanna-bees and
not being worth the trouble to deal with.
We could have used a few buses and duece's during the search for Danielle
van Dam, that's for sure. But we couldn't even get a response from the local
HAM operators - by the time we were thinking about large group transports
the search was over. Most of the military that I liaised with just car
pooled out to the search areas in POV's - same thing for Jahi Turner.
There might also be an issue (at least here in Kalifornia) with appearing in
HMV's that the public could mistake for government military vehicles. In
some of the search operations, the military wanted nothing to do with the
ops, at least officially. Off duty personnel were another matter, and they
could choose to participate on their own time.
Just a few thoughts on the matter,
Greg
