Surface mail to USA takes 3 months.
Airmail is about 2 weeks.
Surface is cheapest (although I would debate the use of the word
cheap).
Airmail costs a fortune.
Verify the cost yourself by going to the Australia Post website, you
will need to use a search engine, I don't have the URL to hand and
look up the postage cost. US$80 sounds too rich to me.
By the way, we are metrified, so don't expect to see pounds! Everything
will be in kilos (actually 500 gram increments). So convert your 20
pounds to kilos (roughly 10 kilos) so that you can accurately work it
out.
What you will find (this is the way they normally do it) is a base
cost for the first 500 grams plus an add on cost for each extra 500
grams. Do make sure you have chosen the right region for
addressor and addressee, otherwise you may be way out.
Unless you are desperate, I wouldn't even consider airmail.
Regards
Doug
