Greetings from Australia,
I am completing the last major job on my CCKW resto,
The front axle housing was bent at the knuckle joints,
so i acquired another one and am rebuilding.
My question relates to the CV joint...the whole thing fell apart,
cause the centre ball pin was broken..I have a spare, but i wonder
what is the purpose of the crosspin thru the half shaft..it does
not retain the centre ball pin directly..does it squeeze the half shaft
together so as to retain the ball pin?
Also the manual describes placing the centre pin, then putting the centre
ball, followed by the other 4 balls, THEN manipulating the centre ball
till it DROPS onto the pin?? Is there any special trick to this?
ENGINE OIL...what is the best grade of oil to use in the GMC 270.
I presently have 20w-50, my climate is mild,no frosts, but moderately hot
summer.
An old car buff told me i should use Vintage style oil, I did
think to use 50w oil.
Band of Brothers starts tonight on Oz TV..the promo had a CCKW in the
background,
I have been too busy recently to read the list much.
regards tony
