brakes are relatively easy to do, just require time and very little
money. apart from having a bad air pack you should have no trouble with
just a few special tools. plan to replace all wheel cylinders and clean
or replace shoes. you may want to buy/borrow the tool for removing the
shoe springs. you will need the truck sized one, a little bigger than
for cars. i suggest you remove all the brake hoses and if cracked,
replace, but at least check for flow. i have always found failed hoses
to some extent. (internal restriction) everything is just big and heavy,
but take all the wheels off, and remove all the drums (back off the
adjusters first) i use a garden sprayer with parts cleaning solvent and
a oil drain pan under the backing plate. solvent is available at most
parts stores in 5 gal containers. most of the rest of the job is fairly
obvious. there is no excuse for bad brakes, but keep in mind these
trucks are mostly at least 30 years old and have had very poor
maintenance...........
