Worked for the French military, why not apply it to civilians too!
Oh, wait, the Chinese already have. Why don't we just give the police
bombs rocket artillery too!
Seriously. I understand how police are supposed to deal with certain
situations, but there's a serious difference between a cowed peasant
population that isn't in the habit of making decisions for itself vs
a republican nation that has this strange notion that they are the
source of power for the government. That's something that I think a
good number of Americans and most Swiss seem to understand. I fear
that not enough Americans believe this enough.

The problem is that more often than not, they don't. With zero checks
and balances the police can do what they want. Deathsquads and
private executions become habit for some when their only means of
controlling the situation is based on their use of a battle rifle for
intimidation. This shows when such forces come up against real troops
with real training and firepower (See Panama). Also, it becomes
harder to tell the difference between them and thugs (discounting the
uniform).

Exactly the problem. Well ordered and organized gangsters want their
flock cowed, productive and docile.
As someone who is often armed when in public, I make a point to
smile, say please and thank you and be very polite to people. Cops
should act as I do, rather doubly so. Their uniform, however does not
make them 1st class citizens above all others with their own rules
and priviledges.
OB MV content.
One of the folks on the Ferret list mentioned having bought some IR
filters for his spotlight on his ferret. Has anyone got a source for
these? Also, any recommendations on Passive IR Biniculars?
