I have rigged up a lot of stuff over the years. I even made a set of
brackets to mount an AC compressor in my 61 Falcon. I had the same thought
you do when I bought my M35. I was greatly disappointed to see the
"tightness" of the mulitfuel engine in my truck. The only thing I think
could work would be to put a 3 belt pulley on the alternator and mount a
"accessory" over it. I plan to try this over the winter for a 24 volt AC
compressor. Should be fun.

By the way, how do you change the belt on the Air compressor? Does the
pulley change in thickness somehow?

a M35 or M54 class machine to get the 12 volts.
