Hello to All,
Yesterday 9/28/02, Debbie, Justin, and I climbed a board the M35A2 and
drove to the former Perrin Field in Sherman, Texas from our home in
Joshua, Texas. 100+ miles on way (3 hours). The truck purred all the
way at 2,300 rpm.
We attended the Wings and Wheels for Charity air show and what a rally it
was! Custom car clubs, motorcycle clubs ( Harleys everywhere) and a good
turn out of HMV's.
Activities included warbirds in the air, national aerobatic finals,
skydiviers ( presented the colors for the national anthem), R/C airplane
and helicopter flying, a poker run for the bikers, and a show battle
(Axis Germany vs. Allied Forces. A fun day for sure.
Then, the 3 hour trip home. Half way back, in a construction zone a Texas
Highway Patrol car fell in behind us and stayed there for several miles
to the end of construction where I " throttled up " . Trooper stayed
where he was and I told Debbie, " He's going to pull us over".
Sure enough, beacons came on and I turned on my right turn signal and
began slowing down while moving onto the shoulder of the road. When I
got slow enough I pulled completely off the shoulder onto the grass and
stopped.
As thr trooper walked up to the driver door I made certain he could see
me remove me seat belt and stepped down. He introduced himself and asked
for my D/L and proof of insurance. I retrieved them(along with the
registration. He asked if the truck was privately owned, where I'd been,
and where I was going now. I answered his questions curtiously.
Reason for the stop? It is unusual to see a paper temp tag on a military
vehicle and it raised a RED FLAG.
He was a gentleman and curtious and I reacted with respect and civility.
End result of this encountered? We, the MV family, made a new friend and
perhaps a new member since he was very enteresed in what we do with our
trucks and uniforms, etc. You just never know how YOUR ATTITUDE will
affect someone.
