I am not a mechanic. Having said that please bear with me as I most likely
get to technical for my very limited knowledge of engines. I would like
the help of you seasoned mechanics out there, or just anyone who is
familiar with the T245 engine and has worked on them before.
I recently bought a 1964 m37. the truck was not running when I bought it,
but the engine is supposedly in good condition, but when I bought it, a few
of the accessories had been taken off for cleaning, etc (carburetor,
generator, distributor was out, and manifold was off). I have all the
manuals for the m37 engine and the number on block is T245-214.. and I
can't make out the rest I think it's '... b54'. I am skeptical about the
distributor and the fuel pump. in the manuals the distributor has a
somewhat elliptical casing and the 24v coil is built into the bottom just
under the distributor cap. However, the distributor that came with mine,
and that I had to reinstall, does not have this particular casing. It is
completely circular, and from what I can tell, there is no coil. I had
assumed the coil was mounted outside the distributor somewhere.
The fuel pump is definitely not like that which is in the manual. mine
has a glass bowl attached to the bottom, kinda like the fuel pumps on the
older tractors.
My questions are:
1) Am I using the right manual? I am currently using TM9-1840A. I
purchased the compiled CD from Military Media Productions, which has a
plethora of different manuals
2) Were there any variations to the engine during the production life of
the m37? Were there difference in the distributors and fuel pumps? Anyone
else have a setup similar to this? Did some require an external coil? or
were some made with the type of fuel pump i'm describing?
Thanks in advance for your help,
blue
