We had Mercedes, Opels, M35's, M49's, M-900 series, IH school busses, forklifts, Jet Turbine generators, tent stoves, TACQ generators, and perhaps another dozen applications. One of the hats I wore made me the chief of the motor pool (amongst other things). Yes, we changed the fuel filters, but that was a 180 day PMI (preventive maintenance inspection) task that we had to perform anyway. The only consistent comment that I had from operators was that they thought they had more power and slightly less fuel mileage. With over 500 engines we had zero failures between 1990 and 1998! I personally noticed that the engine internals appeared cleaner after using JP-8. You asked if aviation fuel is compatible with diesel engines? JP-8 stands for Jet Propulsion type 8. We also used JP-8 in our F-16's, F-15's and C-5's.
>Do not confuse aviation gasoline with aviation fuel. Aviation gasoline is a very high octane gasoline used in piston engined aircraft. Aviation fuel, JP-8, (sometimes called aviation kerosene) is used in jet turbine engines, whether they are fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters or turbine generators. And of course, diesel engines.

> Question just hit me. The Marines (and the armed services) are moving to a new fuel, and have been for about a year. The fuel is JP-8. The only change to using this new fuel is changing fuel filters that are clogged with the old diesel sludge. I have heard that this is a long term problem, as a result of NO lube in the fuel of a diesel engine. Most of the old timer mechanics (not military) have said that in a few years we will be replacing engines due to burnt internal items. There was a post earlier about BioFuel, can this equate to the same thing? How about Aviation fuel, is it compatable with the diesel engine. I have heard many types of 'homegrown' fuels and additives to be able to do this, like adding a qt or 2 of dexron to some fuel to make it 'lube' the engine still. All of you Fuelies out there give us some advice on this. Can diesel be replaced with a better fuel? Is it worth the hassle? Or should we ju
