Jon, from your description it is most likely the bearing
seal on your turbocharger. The best check is to just disconnect
the exhaust and intakes, and take a peek inside both sides.
I just put mine back in.
It should be obvious if thats the problem
The BAD news - they are usually not rebuilt, but replaced
When I priced them they were $300-$375
The GOOD news - its a remove-and-replace, not that big a deal.
