Wed. afternoon a friend and I went to another friends farm to put up a deer
stand and ride the mule (M274A4, with upgrade kit). In the process we
drowned the mule while trying to cross a ditch filled with water. Of course
it didn't look that deep, lol !!
I stuck it's nose (air intake) in the water and couldn't back out. It took
deep breath and filled it's lungs (air filter assy.) and rest of the engine
with water, before I could shut it off.
My friend is crippled and can't walk very far, so I left him there to drink
all the beer ( hadn't planned on that). I walked .5 mi. back to the shop
where we unloaded to get something to go after Don and the mule. I was more
worried about how I get Don back than the mule. The truck we drove down
there in is a 2WD, so using it was not an option. I have keys to all the
farms gates but not to the shop. After finding a field expedient,
Caterpillar tractor key (fence staple, ), I took the D5 to rescue. I towed
the mule and Don back to the shop. What a sight!!!!!
Yesterday I changed the oil and filter, removed the sparkplugs ( to drain
out the water), emptied the air cleaner, emptied the fuel filter and bowl,
and the little darling fired right up. NOW, have I forgotten anything? Only
the air intake got in the water, so I don't have to worry about the trans.
or running gear.
Thanks for any and all suggestions!!!!!!
Keith
