The first Unimog I ever saw was in the late 70's. A friend I went to high
school with had a job with Asplundh (the tree trimming company). Asplundh
had a contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority to spray powerlines in
middle TN. The truck he was using was a 4x4, diesel, Unimog with huge tires
and a very large winch on front. And of course the spray tank on back. My
friend said that some of the hills he had to spray were so steep he had to
use the winch to get to the top.
At the time I knew nothing about Unimog, except that it was the neatest 4wd
I'd ever seen. Anyone know what model it could have been? Or have any info.
on Asplundh or other contractors that use the Unimog in such an application.
Now I think TVA does most of the spraying with helicopter.
