Ronzo make some great points, especially about shop classes, but maybe some
of this is area specific? Around here, every April the local chapter of the
ATHS (Antique Truck Historical Assoc, www.aths.org) holds a one day meet at
a local ranch. No vendors, but it's a great draw with lots of dads and kids.
Does wonders for the local collectors and builds a lot of good will.
I think couple of reasons for the success are that the meet is help on a
Saturday. That's the real day of meet, not the pack-up and go home day. Also
everybody, especially the ranch owner, goes out of their way to maintain a
friendly atmosphere. The truck owners make an effort to talk with folks
about their rigs. There's a few MV's, I wish more would come.

FWIW and happy new year to all!
Rich

Or run a rally weekend WITHOUT vendors and see how much public show up
to view our displayed machines or even our own fellow hobbiests, who really
have no reason to come 100 miles to look at your restored machine, but will
if they can only get a chance to get that part they need to finish their
project.

And ending on that sour note, I wish you all a happy and prospeous New
Year.
