most diesels have some manual pump and a way to bleed the system. in the
case of m-35 the in tank pump fills this duty and the injection pump
will self prime after you get fuel to it. in the case of some old cat
motors there is a bleeder for each injection piston and it will never
start until you bleed them. you just need to be smarter than what you
are working on, or able to read the manual.
