Well, OK but you asked. You're right - most of those patents do not address the $64K question. I attempted to take the integral of
the waveform's total charge delivery at both polarities and then get the delta - indeed net charge is delivered to the battery, so it is trickling charge -but there is also a portion of the cycle where the plates are briefly reversed in polarity. The interval is of a specific duration. Checking with a chemist at work, that depolarization would be sufficient to achieve the lead sulfate ionization potential. (Pb+H2SO4=Pb2SO4+H2 undone, or something like that)
The trick then is that if the battery is weak (has little forward ionic transfer) then that reverse interval becomes dominant ion exchange, and can consume the lead sulfate.
I think this is close to the idea, but I think I'll keep my day job.
