Am I crazy? Is there something wrong with just tapping off the jumper
between the two batteries to pull off 12V to ground? Our M54A2 has had 12v
lights, trailer hookup, radios and a 10k civvy winch this way for years with
no problems, using the original 6TL's (1986). The alternator & solargizer
charges both batteries happily...

Bruce,
Adding an alternator and a third battery is pretty straight forward, if you
have the space and can mount the alternator. All in all not very imaginative
or interesting. The brute force solution is to install a bigger 24 v
alternator, say 60 or 100 amp, and buy the biggest 24v to 12 converter that
you can afford.
A source for the ChargeTek 500:
Check under 24v chargers.
This site also has a lot of info on batteries.
Have a great day!
