David can fill in the part numbers but the earlier turbos were of a
different design which had a narrow exhaust side the impeller on this
side was larger in diameter. In this model the shaft and the compressor
turned slower and whistled at a pitch that can be heard. Later they went
to the newer quiet style which had a wider exhaust housing and smaller
in diameter this allowed the shaft to spin faster (the way a small boat
tire spins faster than a car tire traveling at the same speed) and build
more boost pressure. On a few LDS engines they had an adapter and used
this same turbo.
