on a diesel, fuel = horsepower. the higher the fuel rate, the more power
you will have. this is especially true on a turbo engine where that
extra fuel also causes more air to be pushed into the engine. you reach
a point where the boost is so high that the head gaskets might fail or
where the combustion temp is so high that the pistons will melt. there
is a safe point before this happens where that particular engine is
making all the power it is capable of. a pyrometer in the exhaust and a
boost gauge are your indicators as to what is happening. i have been
told that the temp 6" past the turbo is 300 f cooler than in the
manifold....... however i have been running my work truck at max of 1050
f for several years now with no problems and i run it very hard.
