Kenny is correct with his formula. I once took it to the extreme, mixing
1100 and 900 tires (singles) in the rear without any noticable change in
rolling resistance.
Generally, each differential produces an output which is in direct
proportion to the two inputs and when the two differentials are rigidly
connected together, then the total on one axle must equal the total on the
second otherwise a drag will develop with extensive tire wear and possibly
damage to the differentials as a result.

There really should be interaxle differentials on these trucks.

I wrote an article on this for MVM a couple of years ago, issue #85 (June
2001).
