List,
I have returned from Ulithi Atoll in the Western Pacific, from a project
involving the sunken oiler USS Mississinewa (AO-59). ( MY mv content, albeit
a ship.) I was gone for a total of 38 days and when I returned I had over
1200 emails from this list. Now, I know the word is spreading and the hobby
is growing, I love that part of it. I do find however, that the ratio of
ranting to MV information exchange has increased dramatically! I have been
on this list for the last 9+ years and used to get 6-10 emails a day. Now it
is up to 50-70 per day. While I still love the hobby and I know this list
has done wonders to unite people of the same interests, I long for the days
when Arthur would flame your butt good for posting political opinion or
anything else not having direct MV relevence. Many of the listers would
chime in as well.
Maybe my extended absence is what it took to recognize the metamorphisis
that is transpiring. While I still think there is a TON of great people and
info here, I may have to sign off, as I don't have the time to wade through
a 95 post thread on why the French suck, where to buy my tools, or why we
have the current President we have now. (Go Dubya!). There are countless
chat rooms and bulliten boards for this. I own a GPW, a Mule, a trailer, and
am always working on other aquisitions. I hope this remains a place where I
can turn for advice and tips on avoiding the numerous pitfalls a novice
retorer becomes entangled in. If I want to learn about local laws or see how
the "establishment" can wrong innocents, (I truly am sorry to hear of your
experiences, Joe), I will turn on 20/20, Maury Povich/Chung, or any of the
other pap that floods the airwaves.
I am off the soapbox now. I feel better. I apologise for the length.
