Only permanent magnet motors reverse direction if the power is reversed.
With series, shunt, or compound wound motors (those with wound field coils
rather
than permanent magnets) the polarity of the power has no effect on the
rotation direction. In fact, many will run on AC (so called 'Universal'
motors). [All bets are off if the motor has solid state devices in it ]

I one time drove some 50 miles on a service call to a machine powered by 20
HP gasoline, electric start, engine in answer to complaint - "will not
start" ' customer had installed new 12V battery and had reversed leads.
Starter would turn but would not engage flywheel because starter motor was
turning backwards and drive would not extend.
