It is hard to believe the WWII Military Vehicle Convoy
is just a week away. We have worked nearly a year on
this project and are excited that it will occur very
soon. It has become very easy to confuse my full time
job and hobby as of late. We are starting the event
publicity now, with me doing a phone interview with a
Moberly radio station Wednesday with more to come.
As of today, we have 28 vehicles and nearly 80 people
attending the event as participants coming from the
states of Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa,
Minnesota, Texas, Tennessee and Mississippi. The
vehicles include 6 GPW’s, 8 MB’s, 7 Dodges (WC,
Carryall, Ambulance, Command Car and WC-55), three
motorocycles, a CMP, a Scout Car and a Half Track. I
am waiting to hear on a few more so we will see how
big the event grows.
It isn’t too late to get into this event, but you need
to let us know ASAP if you are attending. Send us an
email at soldierboy440@yahoo.com to let us know so we
can reserve a spot for your vehicle or a seat on a
vehicle. They are starting to fill up quickly as
people RSVP for the event. If you send us an email
that you will attend, please print and fill out the
registration form and bring it to the event. Do not
try to register using the registration form on line,
since this isn’t a feature we are using. You can get
complete information at:

The festivities start at 1400 on Friday for those who
can make it with Vet Ride ’03-the MV’s giving rides to
patients of the Harry S Truman Memorial Hospital in
Columbia. The hospital is very excited about our
participation and it will be fun. If you want to join
in the Vet Ride, show up at the Columbia VFW at 1400,
and we will head to the hospital at 1430.
On Saturday the convoy itself starts forming up not
later than 0730 with an anticipated step off after the
0800 safety briefing. The convoy has been divided
into three elements with subordinate leaders who will
lead their sections: Red, White and Blue elements.
An Army travels on its stomach and the convoy is no
exception. The VFW Hall is sponsoring a SOS breakfast
on Saturday morning, and the Moberly American Legion
is providing lunch for $7. Les Bourgeois Winery is
also hosting us for a stop over for the Bluff Top Wine
Garden near the end of the 100 mile voyage. Saturday
night the VFW is hosting a dance…so it is a weekend
full of activity.
We have the hotel information on the website, and
camping is also a possibility. If you plan on
camping, contact me soon since there is limited
camping space at the VFW, but we have secured some
additional space from a Railsplitter so you can camp
on his land…but let us know soon!
Fifty T-shirts have been ordered with the markings on
the front of “WWII Military Vehicle Convoy Missouri
Wine Country 10 May 03” on the front, and the Convoy
Logo on the back with the phrase “WE KEPT THEM
ROLLING” on the back. They are tan colored and are
$15. If you want one you can reserve them by emailing
me and we will hold them for you. I can email you the
design in case you have not seen it. I expect the
shirts to sell fast!
We appreciate the interest in this event and look
forward to meeting all of you as we KEEP THEM
ROLLING!.
