FOR INTERCEPTED VHF EMITTERS. THE AN/TSQ-138 HAS A 50-FOOT
QUICK-ERECT HYDRAULIC/PNEUMATIC ANTENNA MAST ASSEMBLY MOUNTED ON THE
ROOF OF A 5-TON TRUCK. THE TRAILBLAZER IS 156" HIGH, 98" WIDE,
307.4" LONG AND WEIGHS 9,712 POUNDS. THE AN/TSQ-138 CONSISTS OF THE

AT LEAST TWO OTHER AN/TSQ-138, THE AN/TSQ-138 CAN COMPUTE VHF EMITTER
FIXED LOCATIONS THROUGH LOB DATA TRANSFER VIA A HIGH-SPEED DATA LINK.
THE AN/TSQ-138 CONTROLS THE DATA LINK BETWEEN OTHER MASTER CONTROL
SETS WITHIN A DESIGNATED NETWORK. THE TRAILBLAZER SYSTEM (MASTER
CONTROL SET) SUPPORTS THE DIVISION AND BRIGADE COMMANDER'S TARGET AND
SITUATION DEVELOPMENT AND FORCE PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS THROUGH ITS
HIGH-CAPACITY, GROUND-BASED COMMUNICATIONS INTERCEPT, PROCESSING, AND
DIRECTION FINDING CAPABILITIES.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE AN/TSQ-138, MASTER CONTROL SET (TRAILBLAZER),
IS EMPLOYED IN A HEAVY DIVISION, ELECTRONIC WARFARE (EW) COMPANY, AND
DEPLOYED TO FULLY COVER A DIVISION FRONT.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: 5 MASTER CONTROL SETS (TRAILBLAZERS) PER
HEAVY DIVISION, EW COMPANY; 9 FOR TRAINING (FT HUACHUCA): 4 IN C
COMPANY (W1E82C) AND 2 IN I COMPANY (W1E81E), 305TH MI BATTALION; 3
IN A COMPANY (W1E83B), 304TH MI BATTALION (FT HUACHUCA).
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: POWER FOR THE AN/TSQ-138 IS PROVIDED BY
A 5-TON TRAILER SUPPORT UNIT EQUIPPED WITH A 30KW, 400HZ DIESEL
GENERATOR (MEP-114A), AS PART OF THE TRAILBLAZER SYSTEM.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE AN/TSQ-138 IS TRANSPORTED
ON THE X40794, M923A2, 5-TON DROP-SIDE TRUCK 6X6 WITH A 5-TON TRAILER
SUPPORT UNIT. THE TOTAL WEIGHT FOR THE TRUCK, SHELTER AND TRAILER
SUPPORT UNIT IS 42,900 POUNDS. THE HMMWV CARGO-TROOP TRUCK (T61494)
IS USED TO TRANSPORT PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT. THE X40794, WITH THE
5-TON TRAILER SUPPORT UNIT, IS AIR TRANSPORTABLE BY C-130 OR LARGER
AIRCRAFT.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR: 98G
(A) CREW SIZE: SIX 98G FOR EACH SYSTEM: ONE E6,
THREE E5, AND TWO E4.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): RESIDENT
TRAINING FOR THE SYSTEM IS AN ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL COURSE FOR
MOS 98G, COURSE NUMBER 231-F20.
(2) MAINTAINERS:
(A) UL MAINTENANCE: 31U, 33T, 52D, 52DC9, AND 93D.
(B) DS MAINTENANCE: 33T, 35E, 35N, AND 52D.

H. SPECIAL NOTES:
1. THE CONFIGURATION WAS DEVELOPED UNDER THE AN/TSQ-114B,
MASTER CONTROL SET (TRAILBLAZER). IAW HQ DA DIRECTION, THE FY84
TRAILBLAZER PRODUCTION CONTRACT WILL DELETE THE AN/TSQ-139 (REMOTE
SLAVE SET) AND PROVIDE FOR 5 EACH AN/TSQ-138 (MASTER CONTROL SET) PER
DIVISION FRONT. A CTA ITEM, LIN M78317, MOUNTING KIT CHEMICAL AGENT
ALARM, M182 (AR 50-909, TABLE 60) IS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT AN/TSQ-138.
2. AMENDMENT 3 DELETED THE PRIME MOVER LIN C10858 (CARGO
CARRIER, FULL TRACKED) AND ADDED LIN X40794 (5-TON TRUCK CARGO).
WITH THIS CHANGE OF PRIME MOVER, AMENDMENT 4 CHANGED THE PERSONNEL,
ASOIE, AND DPAMMH AND THE RATIO OF THE X40794 TO 6:5. BECAUSE
SINCGARS RADIOS ARE IN FINAL FIELDING STAGE, AMENDMENT 5 DELETED CMI
LINS B38070, M77926, R25600, AND R33939 AND ADDED LINS J47457,
R44863, AND J36725. TO SATISFY ODS REQUIREMENT FOR TIMELY

REPLACEMENT OF KYX-15/TEC (LIN N02758) AND THIS BOIP WILL ALSO REMOVE
THE KYK-13 (LIN E98103) AND K0I-18 (LIN T40405). AMENDMENT 6
CORRECTED THE LEVEL OF USE FOR LIN S41715 (ASOIE) BY ADDING UNIT
LEVEL (UL), DELETED MOS 39B AND THE GENERAL SUPPORT MAINTENANCE
MANHOURS OF 4.3, AND ADDED LIN Z70236 (NAVSTAR GPS PRECISION
