Looking at this the wrong way.....
All these things leak, so the solution is to fill the splines full of
gasket goo before assembly, standard practice on any joint like this that
sits below the oil level in a transfer case, gearbox, whatever. Jeep is
the same. the world is full of new jeep owners who replace their transfer
case seals more than once trying to get them to seal - at least you
realised it's coming down the splines.
