Just to shed a little light on the subject of the transmission problem, no I
didn't check it before I left but the leak, which I have not looked into
yet, developed on the way home. It leaked the fluid out quick and almost
all at once because the whole underside of the truck is covered. The safety
chain on my jeep in tow was even wet with oil. I too am curious to know
what happened and will post what I find later. We discovered the problem
when we pulled over at the NC/SC state line on 95 and removed my ear plugs
and notice the trans was making a new noise. I crawled under the truck to
find it dripping fluid from the front of the transfer case all the way to
the back of the truck. Even the spare tire was wet. We had driven 9 hours
at this point and had 3 hours left. Must be something catastrophic. Will
investigate when I get caught up at work and after this weeks funeral (been
attending a lot of funerals lately). The trans is shot though. I'm just
glad I have a real good one in another truck. Saturday night I didn't care
about anything but getting home. I wish I had a bottle of GL-1 that I could
have added to it. Even so at this point I think it had suffered damage that
would make it unreliable.
