Sure - everyone has their strategy.
For me, the only one that works is to set an autobid at whatever I want to
pay for the lot, and then forget about it. This game of trying to one up the
other person $10 at a time happens whenever someone new to auctions shows
up - doesn't matter if it's GL, county, or the local estate sale.
Works great for the auctioneers when people get excited and keep raising -
and amuses members of the audience to no end as we watch a bidding war
happen.
So - bid what YOU feel a lot is worth, not what someone else feels it's
worth.
Personally, I kind of like the auction end time advancing another 10 minutes
or so after the last bid - stops those snipers in their tracks, and evens it
out for the folks that want to manually set bids by increments.
