I suspect, below I'm telling the story of a number of us,
but I can't resist -
The winter passed a little quicker this year rebuilding our M35A2 wo/w. The goal was to have it parade ready for
Memorial Day - mission accomplished. The 2nd of 3 Memorial day parades we do was in our small home town, and reminds me why we do this. Big Mike M35A2 picked up the volunteer fire department and took them to the parade; transported elderly vets / colors in the parade; acted as a backdrop for the memorial service at the Cemetary at the end, and returned our entire little league back to their parked cars.
The speaker is the same one we've had for 15 years, the town band is a little hard to listen to, one of the rifles usually misfires during the salute, and the porta-potty
business always has their truck upwind in the parade -
But the little league covers their hearts with their caps,
and the old vets are always patiently helped to their feet.
It's home, by God, and a not a bad way for an old steel
soldier to end up.
