Ronzo,
I have no idea what spin-on type filter would work,
but it seems to me the only two things that matter are
the flow rate and filtration ability of the filter.
The partical filtration is especially key in the fuel
area, because fuel heading into the injectors must be
absolutely clean. I'm sure any truck or farm parts
house could provide valuable information on what is
commericially available.
As as side note and this is just my humble opinion,
but I think the military stayed with the old style
filtration system because the steel cannisters that
hold those filters are really tough compared to the
newer ultra thin metal spin ons. I could see how a
flying rock could puncture on of the thin wall filters
and not even dent the current steel pots. That
retaining bolt on those steel pots is probably easier
to remove than a large spin-on filter that may require
a special filter wrench. In a pinch you can removed
and clean a filter element on a steel pot, try that
with a spin-on type! It all comes down to maintenance
under adverse conditions and durability.
That why I say I'm not so sure that changing out the
military filter system would be that much of an
advantage, unless your friend is planning on going
through one heck of a lot of filters.
Good luck, Jack
