M35 wheel bearings

I finished up my repack job on all three axles a while
back, but in hindsight I wonder how everyone else
determines how tight to tighten the inner spindle nut.
I snuged it up by hand (lightly) until I could feel
the bearings just bottom out and then backed it off
about 1/3 turn. I am going to take the outer front
bearings back out to put sleeve retainer on them, as
the spindle was worn enough to allow it to spin. Once
I put the sleeve retainer on it I don't want to have
to fool around readjusting the bearings later.

Also, what is everyones opinion on the recess
inbetween the bearings? I have in the past packed
such a space with grease thinking it would keep grease
in the bearings better. However with this job I did
not because it seemed like a waste of grease. Am I
wrong or does it not matter either way?

Oh yeah, I used Scheaffer's grease, I could swear it
dropped my mileage down being so tacky. But it is the
best grease I've ever used.

Thanks,

Marc
