today, I've a little offer for you all...
I went to a meeting a couple of weeks ago, in a countryside between BOLOGNA
and FLORENCE, in Italy...
you know, that is the places where fifth army got stucked in the winter of
1944, in front of Gothic Line.
they had a few months for the rest just before the final assault to the
northern part of Italy.
when I was there, I met a 91st division veteran...he fought in a place just
near a small town called MONGHIDORO...I will try to write an article for
Supply Line about this event...
then...when browsing in a jeep for that places, I met an old man, that told
me he had some "booklets" from the war...
...no, no, nothing with G503...unfortunately, but always SO MUCH
interesting!!...and I bought them all!!
I will keep few of these booklets for me and a small group of friends here,
but still something like 30 remaining...
title is "HIGHWAY TRAFFIC CONTROL CODE", 12cm x 19cm, 45 pages, half in
english, and half in ..brasilian language!!
also a very nice high detailed folded map 45cm x 50cm.
booklet was printed directly from headquarters fifth army in january 1944;
this edition was revised in oct 44.
it is a compendium of traffic and safety use, ..."the basis of sound
highway traffic operation. it will provide the army with the means to move
efficiently troops and supplies, conserve valuable motor equipment, and
utilize to the maximum an extremely limited road net".
I planned to put them on ebay, because I did a search on Abebooks, and they
aren't offered by nobody.
but, if somebody is interested, I can offer them all for your desk in Oakland!!
...I guess that they can be sold for 25, 30$ each...your cost will be
300euro for all the stock. no more when they will be out of here...
